Dramatic lighting lit up the Crowns engine houses of the old tin mine near Botallack on the Cornish coast making the colours beautiful for this painting. It is a beautiful part of the coastline and a filming location for the tv series Poldark. The sea is as important a part of the subject of this painting as the buildings. The swirling movements and varying colours of the water are fascinating to me.
