Worcester canal boat autumn painting
acrylic on stretched canvas 16 x 12"
The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with a string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is, or can be framed if you prefer.
We are lucky to live near the Worcester and Birmingham canal in Worcester, near Lansdowne Road. The towpath is a nice place to walk and looks different throughout the year depending on the season. In autumn it is especially beautiful when the trees are showing their autumnal colours. The fallen leaves on the path and the grass make the ground as colourful as the trees, especially when the sun is shining. The low sun casts shadows across the path and makes dramatic lighting with lots of contrast between light and dark. I wanted my painting to give the impression of shimmering autumn colours and warm sunlight.
I like the feeling of peaceful stillness on the canal and the thought of life on a canal boat being quiet and unrushed, with time to notice all the nature you get near canals. My only real experience of this was when we once hired a canal boat for a week and slowly chugged up and down the canal. One day a Kingfisher seemed to follow us, flitting back and forth with flashes of irridescent blue.
